Ten in-coming assembly members in the Ningo Prampram District in Accra have complained that they have not been invited to the swearing in ceremony for assembly members tomorrow.

The aggrieved members claimed that they have not received invitation letters to the ceremony because they are perceived to be staunch members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

[contextly_sidebar id=”6fOxtjHJihinOPYNCvNzERy2RPkCp5Jo”]They explained that their presence at the programme has been calculated as one that could “thwart” efforts in choosing a suitable presiding member for the Ningo Prampram assembly.

One of the aggrieved persosn and assembly member for the Kunguortsitsa electoral area, Jonathan Paani Doku on EyewitnessNews said he had personally followed up to get his letter but to no avail.

“Less than 24 hours to the inaugural service, I have not received my letter from the district assembly. Personally, I followed up on it and I was told that the letter was passed to someone to distribute it to us. I tried to find out who the person was but up to today, I’ve not received any answer. I went to the electoral commission to confirm whether I was the person elected for the area and they affirmed my election,” he said.

He noted that, the Old Ningo town has three electoral areas of which only one has received his letter remaining the other two perceived NPP members.

“I’m the NPP constituency officer and the other guy is the NPP organiser for Ningo Prampram and he has also not received his letter but the third person has received his letter.”

When asked whether he has not breached the law for publicly disclosing his party affiliation because he is an assembly member, Jonathan Doku said, “I didn’t use any party symbol, I campaigned on my own strength and I don’t think it’s against any law. I am a member of the NPP and I’m proud of that.”

Jonathan Doku thus said he will definitely be at the swearing in ceremony on Tuesday.

“I will go there because the people duly elected me and I’m not going to disappoint them.”

Meanwhile, speaking on Eyewitness News, the DCE for the area Alhaji Shadrach Nartey explained that they are facing difficulties in distributing the invitation letters because they do not have the contact details of the incoming assembly members.

He maintained that the assembly is a non-partisan body and that all the winners are invited to the inauguration no matter their political affiliations.
