Government has released a total of GH\u00a24.5m to clear allowance arrears it owed the various teacher unions in the country.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”w8acDwMIX6Ob19uzbYjkzGvIckafPaYM”]In a statement the Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang said the money has been paid to the Ghana Education Service for onward payment to the teachers.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the amount\u00a0covers staff car maintenance allowance, motorbike maintenance allowance, bicycle maintenance allowance, as well as allowance for transfer grants, committee of Council members, guide allowance and overtime allowance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is in fulfillment of a pledge made on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 to the leadership of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) at a meeting at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
The National Association of Graduate Teacher\u2019s (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concern Teachers (CTT) had threatened to embark on strike<\/a><\/strong><\/span> should government fail to pay their\u00a0incremental arrears within ten days.<\/p>\n
