Relatives of persons who participated in the 2015 Hajj pilgrimage say they are living in fear following reports that some Ghanaians died in the stampede.

Speaking to Citi News relatives of some Ghanaians who embarked on the holy trip say they are making frantic efforts to get in touch with their relatives.

[contextly_sidebar id=”tNayQg7RfK9NL8KwPgNwwVn27nfa6VAK”]“I heard the news that five Ghanaians have been confirmed dead. I called my mum, it was going through but no one was picking. We have been living in fear since we heard the news, “Abdul Nash whose mother is in Mecca said.

Another, Sadat Mohammed whose auntie embarked on the holy trip told Citi News his family fears the unfortunate will happen.

On Thursday, Ghana’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Said Sinare confirmed that five Ghanaians have been confirmed dead after the incident.

He said eight more pilgrims had died, but were not related to the stampede.

“Some died in the clinics and others died while they were asleep, that is what I meant by natural causes. Some are very old. That is why I want to advise our people back home that anytime they want to perform the hajj, then it is better to get an extra ticket for someone who is very young to take care of them because it’s not an easy exercise. If you are not strong believe me, you will go down,” he added.
