The five member committee investigating bribery allegations leveled against some 22 magistrates have adjourned their sittings for a month.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”cG5kwxMr94UlDBTn0345us69GCIThQSj”]The committee was scheduled\u00a0to continue cross-examining undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas today [Thursday] after it resumed sitting\u00a0on Wednesday<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Fred Djabanor reported that the sitting was adjourned because \u201cAnas has written to the committee that he will be out of jurisdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

The committee resumed sitting after a High Court struck out a case<\/a><\/strong><\/span> brought before it by some 14 implicated judges who were seeking to stop the committee’s work.<\/p>\n

The 14 were praying the court to declare as illegal, the composition of the committee but their case was dismissed by Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.<\/p>\n

In her ruling Justice Torkonoo said the Judicial Council was only performing its administrative role by appointing the committee to look into the matter, an action she says \u201ccannot be illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n
