Three out of the 120 Parliamentary aspirants of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, have been disqualified.

They are Mohammed Kamaldeen Abubakari of Karaga constituency, Bernard Jagri Bavyepu and Noah Megma Shei both from the Bimbila constituency.

They were disqualified for various reasons by the vetting committee led by the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

[contextly_sidebar id=”jSegAcZEVkwcAuKEBP1kqThxItAWq5Hw”] The NDC Chief Scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, affectionately called General Mosquito, said seven other aspirants including the Chereponi District Chief Executive, Hajia Mary Nakobo on their own volition withdrew from the race ahead of the vetting exercise.

He said the party will reimburse the filing fees of the seven who voluntarily withdrew from the race. Vetting of aspirants in the Bunkprugu constituency was deferred pending further investigations into petitions against some aspirants.

However Citi News investigations uncovered that Hajia Mary Nakobo, who was among the only four women in the parliamentary race was compelled to withdraw from the race because of her previous association with then Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) group.

Reports from the Chereponi constituency indicated that her teeming supporters have vowed to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ in the 2016 polls following her disqualification which has been feigned as a withdrawal.

All aspirants in the Tamale Central, Tamale North, Tamale South and Sagnarigu constituencies passed the vetting process.

Radio Gold’s Alhassan Suhuyini, the constituency Secretary, Mohammed Abdul Salam and a former Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhaji Abubakari Sumani are in the race.

Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, will for the first time at the primary compete with Mohammed Ali, alias One Man, a senior lecturer with Tamale Polytechnic.
