{"id":154681,"date":"2015-09-25T11:38:47","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T11:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=154681"},"modified":"2015-09-25T12:07:55","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T12:07:55","slug":"koforidua-polytechnic-to-close-down-over-power-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/09\/koforidua-polytechnic-to-close-down-over-power-cut\/","title":{"rendered":"Koforidua Polytechnic to close down over power cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/14\/koforidua-poly-three-weeks-without-electricity\/\" target=\"_blank\">Koforidua Polytechnic<\/a><\/strong><\/span> faces imminent closure if electricity supply to the institution is not restored.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;pEVDzWGCli5TLVhgzDKMiF87bq6h7DvF&#8221;]It has been over four weeks since the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cut power supply to the polytechnic over the nonpayment of outstanding electricity bills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The polytechnic had earlier indicated that they spend close to 1,500 Ghana cedis daily on fuel for their power generating plant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This they said is exerting immense financial pressure on the school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Registrar of the polytechnic, Mensah Livingston, all efforts to have the problem resolved have proved futile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe met with the Minister of Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, who was surprised at ECG\u2019s reluctance to reconnect electricity supply to the polytechnic; we have also met with Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Education Minister in charge of Tertiary Education who has assured us of getting the problem resolved,\u201d Mr. Mensah Livingston told Citi News earlier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sources close to the polytechnic\u2019s administration have hinted Citi News the school may be closed down in the coming weeks if power is not restored.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ECG appears to have flouted a cabinet directive asking utility providers to exclude educational and health institutions \u00a0from their disconnection campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company\u00a0has been on a rigorous campaign across the country to retrieve all monies owed it by various state institutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exercise has seen the disconnection of power to installations of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in the Volta Region and the Ho Municipal Hospital among many others.<br \/>\n&#8211;<br \/>\nBy: Ebenezer Afanyi Dadzie\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Koforidua Polytechnic faces imminent closure if electricity supply to the institution is not restored.
