Students of three Senior High Schools in the Northern Region would be surcharged with the cost of school property destroyed following rioting in those schools.<\/p>\n

Ahmadiya School<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and Karaga Senior High Schools in the Northern Region, were closed down indefinitely due to students’ rioting.<\/p>\n Property running into millions of cedis were destroyed in the process.<\/p>\n The Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Alhaji Mohammed Haroon has told Citi News <\/strong>all three schools would be reopened on October 10, but said the students would be made to pay for the cost of the items\u00a0destroyed.<\/p>\n \u201cAll damaged equipment are going to be paid for by the students,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n According to Alhaji Haroon, the committee is yet to present a report on the cause of the riot but noted that\u201c as for the damages to the government and private property it is a convention that all the students will pay.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSo the various committees have submitted the extent of damage and we are asking each student to pay the amount to be used to bring those things to normalcy for schools to reopen.\u201d<\/p>\n He said currently, the Nalerigu and Karaga SHSs have all submitted the cost of damaged items with the exception of T.I. Ahmadiya School.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why I said that with Karaga and Nalerigu, we are getting the cost but Salaga they didn\u2019t complete because they need to get the photographs and cost of items damaged then we will divide it by the total number of students in order to arrive at how much each student is to pay before returning to school.\u201d<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
