An aspirant seeking to challenge the Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Kofi Buah, in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress in the Ellembelle Constituency of the Western Region, has been disqualified by the vetting committee.

According to the committee, Anlier Liazer, was disqualified for forging the signature of the constituency chairman.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ddwFzSd6jyVF9suLBHzlmgMMzRTLX4an”]Speaking to Citi News’ Western regional correspondent, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo, the Communications Officer of the NDC Ellembelle branch, Famous Tumi Acquah, said the Minister will now go unopposed.

“…After the vetting, Hon Kofi Buah is going unopposed, and Anlier Liazer has been disqualified. He was disqualified on the basis of not having a party ID card and also tempering with the signature of the constituency chairman. There was a petition against him and that is when we got to know the signature was not for the constituency chairman…The excuse he gave was that he gave the forms to someone to work on it for him so he did not know the constituency Chairman did not sign”.

Mr. Acquah further clarified that the disqualified aspirant cannot be regarded as a party member since he has failed to pay his party dues.

“The evidence of payment of party dues is the party ID card. When you pay your dues, the secretary will sign and write the amount you paid and we don’t have a card to confirm that he has paid his dues.As I speak to you now, we don’t have any confirmation.”

In a related development, the Upper East Regional executives of the governing NDC have withheld vetting results for parliamentary aspirants in the Chiana-Paga Constituency pending investigations against one of the three aspirants.

The decision followed the numerous petitions presented to the vetting committee by some party loyalists calling for a suspension of the process to allow investigations.
