{"id":154366,"date":"2015-09-24T06:34:41","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T06:34:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=154366"},"modified":"2015-09-24T06:39:37","modified_gmt":"2015-09-24T06:39:37","slug":"anas-investigative-methods-questionable-bright-akwetey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/09\/anas-investigative-methods-questionable-bright-akwetey\/","title":{"rendered":"Anas&#8217; investigative methods questionable &#8211; Bright Akwetey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A private legal practitioner, Bright Akwetey has described as questionable, the modus operandi employed by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas in uncovering the alleged bribery in the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the journalist invaded the privacy of the judges and lured them, hence he (Anas) cannot be excluded from the allegations leveled against the judicial officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026When investigating, you didn\u2019t go to hide somewhere to look at or to screen a scene when a judge is seen taking money from somebody but you instigated the thing yourself,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;nQ0IvqzxkDH1Ule6TQGEXvxAZwJqUNML&#8221;]\u00a0Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, lawyer Bright Akwetey also backed calls to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/22\/anas-video-conference-centre-in-clear-contempt-lawyer\/\" target=\"_blank\">cite as contempt<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the decision by the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) and the Tiger eye pi team to publicly screen the video documentary that captures some judges allegedly accepting bribes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The investigative piece produced by Anas Aremeyaw Anas was <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/22\/thousands-throng-conference-centre-for-anas-video-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\">premiered<\/a><\/strong><\/span> at the AICC on Tuesday and Wednesday despite a court notice served to the management of the conference facility that sought to put an injunction on the use of the premises for the public screening of the video.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Mr. Akwetey insisted that the parties involved ought to have respected the process currently before the court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u201cIf you have gone to lure the judge into taking money, (which I do not support), you don\u2019t go and show to the general public especially when you have been served with a process to stop you from screening it,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey did not need an order of injunction to stop them from screening it, the process having been handed to you, was enough to stop you from screening it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lawyer Akwetey further\u00a0described the development as an unfortunate one as he maintained it had the potential to ruin the reputation of the implicated judges, the judiciary and the country in general.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Attorney General has under the whistle blowers Act, granted immunity to Anas for the expos\u00e9\u00a0at the judiciary. A decision Mr. Akwetey says he will challenge as he queried the basis for\u00a0granting the immunity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf you are a whistle blower you will not expose yourself as I did it, he is not entitled to any immunity, I will challenge the AG for that immunity granted,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile sitting by the judicial committee of inquiry mandated to establish the truth in the allegations levelled against the judges and magistrates hit a snag on Wednesday after the eight other judges under investigations <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/23\/judicial-scandal-8-judges-walk-out-of-cttee-sittings-to-go-to-court\/\" target=\"_blank\">staged a walkout<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>during the sitting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They explained that the decision was to enable them support the class action taken by 14 other judges currently in court seeking that the committee be suspended since they described their work as unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A private legal practitioner, Bright Akwetey has described as questionable, the modus operandi employed by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas in uncovering the alleged bribery in the judiciary.
