{"id":151449,"date":"2015-09-14T14:35:57","date_gmt":"2015-09-14T14:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=151449"},"modified":"2015-09-14T13:49:28","modified_gmt":"2015-09-14T13:49:28","slug":"tescon-backs-calls-for-new-voters-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/09\/tescon-backs-calls-for-new-voters-register\/","title":{"rendered":"TESCON backs calls for new voters\u2019 register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Tamale Polytechnic Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Tertiary Education Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) has backed calls for the compilation of a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/28\/im-confident-ec-will-compile-new-voters-register-nana-addo\/\" target=\"_blank\">new voters\u2019 register <\/a><\/span>for the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main opposition party is leading the crusade endorsed by other opposition parties and civil society organizations including the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party\u2019s vice presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a presentation claimed the current voters\u2019 register is bloated with foreign names.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;7WQKzmsmHOPk1hknUnVqtXTg8XJXXqmQ&#8221;]The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has downplayed the NPP\u2019s assertion and further kicked against the compilation of a new register.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Tamale Polytechnic chapter of TESCON has joined the campaign and implored the Electoral Commission to heed to the NPP\u2019s call.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Its President, Adam Abdul Fatawu, in a Citi News interview posited that compiling a new voters&#8217; register could deepen the nation\u2019s democratic credentials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTESCON Tamale Polytechnic chapter of the NPP is of the view that the call for a new voters\u2019 register as indicated by Dr. Bawumia is in the right direction and we strongly support the move because a bloated voters register could lead to electoral malpractice, hence incredible election which will likely lead to insecurity and violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He emphasized, \u201cAs students we are appealing to the EC not to make any mistake in the interest of a political party to jeopardize the relative peace we are enjoying: Ghana is the only country we have also referred to as the gateway to Africa and we must do all we can as a nation to maintain this enviable credibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adam Abdul Fatawu also lauded the Let My Vote Count Alliance and its allied groups\u2019 intention to organize a nationwide demonstration on the NPP\u2019s proposal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/Citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Tamale Polytechnic Chapter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Tertiary Education Students Confederacy Network (TESCON) has backed calls for the compilation of a new voters\u2019 register for the 2016 general elections.
