The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has indicated, it will join the planned picketing by some political pressure groups at the Electoral Commission (EC) on Wednesday, to demand a new voters register.

[contextly_sidebar id=”6aDFtd4J2XfedyNYMo4fKvNkLEHqbIxu”]Explaining their decision to join Let My Vote Count, Alliance For Accountable Governance and Movement for Change, the NPP’s National Youth Organiser Sammy Awuku said, “a new voters’ register for 2016 borders on the very survival of Ghana’s democracy.”

He explained in a statement that, the planned picketing at the EC is not an antagonistic crusade, but believes the call for a new voters’ register should not be reduced to the “usual NPP and NDC banter.”

“It is about the collective destiny of our country and the survival of our democracy. Surely, elections are a process and the process which includes a voters register, must be credible,” the Youth Organiser noted.

He also called on like-minded Ghanaians to join them “at the EC premises to demonstrate our anger and peacefully make our concerns known to the Commission.”

Sammy Awuku argued that the youth of Ghana have a bigger stake in Ghana’s electoral process, and is therefore, calling on the millions of Ghanaian youth to lend their support to “the Let My Vote Count Alliance at the Obra spot to begin the walk to the EC.”
