The PPP made the submission on Thursday, 10<sup>th<\/sup> September, 2015 ahead of the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/21\/ec-task-parties-to-submit-proposals-for-new-voters-register\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>September 22 deadline<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>given by the EC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party\u2019s main contention is for the EC to compile any future voters\u2019 register using the National Identification Authority (NIA) Database.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party believes that is the surest way to prevent foreigners and minors Ghanaians from getting onto the register.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;jAyDwFK5oMwvM8Wh2aCtT2ImCqwcQ27r&#8221;]A statement released by the PPP on its submission also noteed that, \u201cThe NIA is the only body mandated to identify and create a database of citizens for the purposes of economic, social and political activities in Ghana,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe EC cannot, therefore side step the NIA as a credible source of who is qualified to vote in our elections,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile the PPP has repeated its call for a complete electronic voting process as part of a comprehensive electoral reform.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the party, cheating, results manipulation, legal funding of party activities and the full enforcement of the Political Parties\u2019 Law are issues that need to be addressed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement added, \u201cwe have confidence in the new chairperson of the EC to undertake immediate electoral reforms that will guarantee Ghanaians a credible electoral process that eliminates cheating and abuse of incumbency in our political space,\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PPP says it expects the 2016 elections to be truly transparent, free and fair.\u00a0 It has also recommend \u00a0that the EC begins the process immediately to implement the outlined \u00a0recommendations for electoral reforms to guarantee credible electoral processes and results that will safeguard the unity and cohesion of mother Ghana before, during and after the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Electoral Commission has given all political parties <span style=\"color: #333333;\">September 22 <\/span>to submit their respective positions on a new voters&#8217; register prior to the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This followed a petition by the opposition NPP to the EC that the current electoral register is bloated and lacks credibility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party has also indicated that about <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/18\/about-80000-togolese-are-in-ghanas-voters-register-bawumia\/\" target=\"_blank\">80,000 Togolese <\/a><\/strong><\/span>have been registered as voters in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP) has submitted its proposal on the voters\u2019 register to the Electoral Commission.
