{"id":150050,"date":"2015-09-09T13:24:27","date_gmt":"2015-09-09T13:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=150050"},"modified":"2015-09-09T13:24:27","modified_gmt":"2015-09-09T13:24:27","slug":"ec-not-bomb-manufacturing-site-defiant-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/09\/ec-not-bomb-manufacturing-site-defiant-group\/","title":{"rendered":"EC not &#8216;bomb-manufacturing&#8217; site &#8211; Defiant group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Members of pressure group, Let My Vote Count have insisted they will picket at the premises of parliament and the Electoral Commission over their demands for a new voters&#8217; register.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the group\u2019s leadership, nothing will stop them from embarking on what they refer to as exercising their civil rights as citizens of the state.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A decision by the group to picket at the premises of the two institutions has been <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/09\/08\/police-stops-group-from-picketing-at-parliament-ec\/\" target=\"_blank\">quashed by the police<\/a><\/strong><\/span> who say those areas are security zones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;DD7pt3wSXoGdvUTck52NB0GCLrNJoBIO&#8221;]A statement released by the police and signed by DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno proposed alternative routes for the group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However speaking in an interview on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, convener of Let My Vote Count, David Asante disagreed with the explanation by the police.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c\u2026In our understanding the EC is not the place where bombs are manufactured neither is it a place where the president of the land resides for it to be classified as a security zone or enclave, \u00a0our understanding is that we notified the police, engaged them and gave them ample time for them to put structures and measures in place to shepherd the demonstrators,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">David Asante added that their action is not a violent one as such it will have a less potential to cause any harm,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGoing to sit quietly at the premises of the Electoral Commission and holding placards with inscription that Ghanaians demand a new voters&#8217; register, there is no way any person should ever think this activity pose security threat to the Electoral Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">David Asante however conceded that the group will consider a court order to restrain them on carrying out their intended plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAs long as it makes legal sense to us and it within the confines of the constitution we shall respect it until then we are picketing on the 16th at the premises of the EC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The call for a new voters register has been initially <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/18\/about-80000-togolese-are-in-ghanas-voters-register-bawumia\/\" target=\"_blank\">proposed by the opposition NPP<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.
