{"id":147240,"date":"2015-08-29T09:14:53","date_gmt":"2015-08-29T09:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=147240"},"modified":"2015-08-29T11:17:22","modified_gmt":"2015-08-29T11:17:22","slug":"journalists-to-pay-ghc8-to-cover-assembly-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/journalists-to-pay-ghc8-to-cover-assembly-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Journalists to pay GHc8 to cover Assembly Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Journalists covering the September 1<sup>st<\/sup> District Assembly Elections will have to pay an amount of GHc8 \u00a0before getting accreditation to cover the exercise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;BvnZra1foJUsr5e2hpqW84uUOEJ2bJGG&#8221;]According to some journalists in the Ashanti and Western regions, the Electoral Commission (EC) in the area has asked them to pay the amount or forfeit the coverage of the elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Ashanti regional correspondent, Hawa Iddrisu who confirmed on Eye Witness News said most of the journalists have agreed to pay the amount to get the chance to cover the elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIndeed, journalists in the Ashanti and Western regions have been asked to pay 8 Ghana cedis and they are willing to pay because without the accreditation they will not be allowed in the inner parameters of the election grounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to her, the Ashanti regional director of the EC Mr Paul Boateng said the commission can no longer bear the cost for the production of the accreditation, hence the charge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Journalists who have agreed to pay the amount will be given their accreditation latest by Monday.
