Candidates vying to contest in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary primaries have begun picking nomination forms.

The NDC opened nominations today and is expected to run till September 10, 2015.

In the Greater Accra Region, Peter Boamah Otokunor has picked his forms to contest in the Ablekuma Central Constituency.

Leeford Kpakpo Quarshie and Michael Kwetey Tetteh who are eyeing the Klottey Korley and Ningo Prampram seats respectively have also picked up forms at the party’s regional office in Accra.

Volta Region

In the Volta Region, the immediate past Deputy Secretary of the NDC in the Anlo Constituency, Wonder Victor Kutor has picked his nominations forms to contest in that constituency.

Speaking to Citi News, he said he is optimistic he will beat his other contenders.

“I’m a party man, I’ve worked as a branch organizer… I have moved on to work as a constituency secretary. As to whether I will win or not, I will leave it to the voters to decide but I can assure you that I am solid on the ground with the people and they know what they will do. They already know what I have been doing for them,” he added.

Northern Region

In the build-up to the primaries, the battle line has been drawn between the Sagnarigu MP, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini and the NDC Northern Regional Youth Organizer, Alhaji Mohammed Adam Amin Abio.

Alhaji Abio who is also in the Sagnarigu Parliamentary race is accusing Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini of wasting his four-year term in Parliament.

The NDC Northern Regional Youth Organizer in a Citi News interview said, “Imagine where a constituency exists without a constituency secretariat and you have a sitting Member of Parliament who is close to four years in Parliament and cannot even get an office to hire to the extent that a chief has volunteered land for us to put up a constituency office and he refused simply because he doesn’t like where the constituency capital is. My coming will be a salvaging point to the people and will even be a liberation point especially to students in that constituency and the vulnerable.”

Alhaji Abio who doubles as the NDC Regional Youth Organizer and Regional Coordinator of the Youth Employment Authority insisted that the Sagnarigu Legislator, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has outlived his usefulness in Parliament.

Eastern Region

Meanwhile the NDC parliamentary aspirant for the Lower West Akim Constituency in the Eastern region, Shirley Osei Naana Ampem has vowed to unseat the incumbent MP Gifty Klenam.

A member of Naana’s campaign team, Adu Agyei told Citi News that Shirley Osei Naana Ampem is the right person to wrestle power from the NPP in the 2016 election.

“She is the Women Organizer in the constituency. We realised that what she is doing is helping the party. She cuts herself across all bounds; she helps both NDC and NPP members and all members of the constituency. We thought that if we should put this woman in front of us, it will help us to claim the seat we’ve been fighting for,” Adu Agyei added.

So far some new faces who have expressed interest to contest in the primaries include: the daughter of former President Jerry Rawlings, Dr. Ezenator (Korle Klottey), popular TV presenter Seth Kwame Dzokoto (Takwa Nsuayem) and Head of Cooperate Communications at the Volta River Authority (VRA) Sam Kwesi Fletcher (Gomoa West).

Others are: Presidential staffer, Sam ‘Dzata’ George (Ningo Prampram), Ras Mubarak (Kumbungu), the Morning Show host of Accra based Radio Gold, Alhassan Suhuyini (Tamale Central) among others.
