The National Peace Council has asked the Electoral Commission to involve civil society organisations in discussions pertaining to the calls for a new voters\u2019 register.<\/p>\n
A statement issued by the Council expressed concern at what it described as \u201cdisturbing,\u201d the partisan nature of ongoing discussions regarding the proposals for a new voters register.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Reverend Emmanuel Asante in an interview on Eyewitness News<\/strong> said, the country\u2019s 2016 general elections could be at\u00a0risk if discussions are left in the hands of political parties,<\/p>\n \u201cIf we leave it as it is and we do not really dispassionately discuss it so that we come up with a consensus, we give room for future wrangling in respect of the outcome of the 2016 elections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”Gzcn4GXlipX9hfU5IGn4QdlYeYDw1oB6″]The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned the Electoral commission for a new voters\u2019 register.<\/p>\n According to the party, the current register is bloated and lacks credibility<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
