Community Cooperative Credit Unions working under the auspices of poverty fund managers, SEND-Ghana have began the second phase of loan disbursement to small holder farmer groups in the Nanumba North District.<\/p>\n
The disbursement is carried in correlation with SEND-Ghana\u2019s Food Security through Cooperatives in Northern Ghana (FOSTERING) project implemented in eight districts in the Eastern Corridor of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n The 8,032,149 Canadian Dollar project earmarked for five years is funded by Canada\u2019s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) with contribution from Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA).<\/p>\n Over 331,800 individual food crop small holder farmers including family members from 5,400 households are expected to benefit from the project.<\/p>\n Chamba Community Cooperative Credit Union (CCCCU)<\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n As a revolving fund, each beneficiary farmer received between GHC200.00 and GHc450.00.<\/p>\n They were scheduled to refund with flexible 20 percent interest within nine months for onward disbursement. 2015 production season<\/strong> Beneficiary farmers\u2019 testimony<\/strong>
\nManaging Director of the Chamba Community Cooperative Credit Union (CCCCU), Makela Mbibini Andrew disclosed that during the first phase in 2014, a total amount of GHc400, 000.00 was disbursed.<\/p>\n
\nAccording to Mbibini Andrew, there existed eight beneficiary farmer groups but three failed to refund the loan within the stipulated period.<\/p>\n
\nHe revealed that the CCCCU received GHc36, 900 cedis for disbursement to the five credit worthy farmer groups in the area.
\nHe said the beneficiary farmer groups with 30 members each were encouraged to invest the loans in soya beans cultivation.
\nMbibini Andrew said the beneficiary farmers by extension have been equipped with modern farming techniques by agric extension officers to maximize their yields.<\/p>\n
\nTwo of the beneficiaries, Onabon Openi James aged 43 of Sogon number one and Ningnanti Mbamba Samuel of Sogon number two testified that the FOSTERING project motivated them to modify their farming activities.<\/p>\n
