The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is questioning the credibility of the population figures of the Volta Region.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the\u00a0Point Blank<\/strong>\u00a0segment on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, the Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Peter Amewu explained that the\u00a0region as compared to other regions does not have any major economic activity to warrant the continuous increases in their population.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”UkYceDzXXzbmie5hVyVHgIq80M2O2E6V”]Peter Amewu made the comments while responding to claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP has singled out the Volta Region in its recent findings on Ghana\u2019s voters register saying it is an attack on the people there<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n The 2012 population and housing census project the population of Volta Region to be 2,118,252.<\/p>\n According to the NPP, information available to the party\u00a0suggests that the population figures are suspicious.<\/p>\n The NPP had argued that, the nation\u2019s voters\u2019 register is bloated with names of Togolese and Ivorians and must be replaced with a new one.<\/p>\n
