{"id":144629,"date":"2015-08-19T14:33:59","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T14:33:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=144629"},"modified":"2015-08-19T13:48:44","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T13:48:44","slug":"calls-for-revision-of-voters-register-timely-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/calls-for-revision-of-voters-register-timely-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Calls for revision of voters\u2019 register timely- Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A civil society group, Let My Vote Count, (LMVC) has described as timely the call for a <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/18\/this-is-why-npps-demanding-new-voters-register-video\/\" target=\"_blank\">revision of the country\u2019s voters\u2019 register <\/a><\/span><\/strong>with barely sixteen months into the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akuffo Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia at a press conference on Tuesday gave reasons to back their calls for the revision of the national register which they say is bloated hence lacks credibility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Bawumia revealed that about 76,286 Togolese nationals have their names registered in Ghana\u2019s voters\u2019 register.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Aut2uNSd0JtgmZKfx1tHlUdNpoWcB8LV&#8221;]He further raised concern at Ghana\u2019s voter population of 44.06 percent which according to him is quite incredible compared to other countries across Africa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a press statement, the LMVC further questioned the credibility of the current register saying it is riddled the \u00a0statistical inconsistencies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHow can Ghanaians have trust in an electoral process riddled with so many statistical anomalies as the 2012 register?\u00a0 That within a matter of four years or two elections, several constituencies have quantum leaps of registered voters by as high as 130%. Some constituencies have registered voters representing 188% of the district\u2019s population as given by the 2010 CENSUS. No scientific reason can ever support such,\u201d It stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The group said\u00a0a critical assessment of the register is likely to identify more foreigners whose names have already been registered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWith the announcement that the voters register from Burkina Faso, Cote d\u2019Ivoire and other ECOWAS countries are also being scrutinized and compared to ours by the NPP team, we expect more of such foreigners to be detected. It is a revelation we believe requires the maximum cooperation of the ECOWAS member countries to address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The alliance further appealed to all well-meaning Ghanaians to join in their call since \u201cnothing is worth risking the peace, stability and growth of this country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has dismissed the evidence raised by the NPP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He has <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/19\/go-to-court-if-togolese-are-on-voters-register-gen-mosquito\/\" target=\"_blank\">challenged the NPP to go to court <\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>over the the concerns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Electoral Commission is set to convene an <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/19\/ec-convenes-ipac-meeting-over-npp-voters-register-demands\/\" target=\"_blank\">Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting<\/a><\/span><\/strong> on Friday to consider the proposals presented to it by the New Patriotic Party.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A civil society group, Let My Vote Count, (LMVC) has described as timely the call for a revision of the country\u2019s voters\u2019 register with barely sixteen months into the 2016 general elections.
