{"id":144416,"date":"2015-08-18T15:06:12","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T15:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=144416"},"modified":"2015-08-18T16:31:28","modified_gmt":"2015-08-18T16:31:28","slug":"gma-strike-177-cuban-doctors-heading-to-ghana-to-help-alex-segbefia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/gma-strike-177-cuban-doctors-heading-to-ghana-to-help-alex-segbefia\/","title":{"rendered":"GMA strike: 177 Cuban doctors heading to Ghana to help &#8211; Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia has revealed that 177 Cuban doctors are getting ready to fly to Ghana to support health care delivery as the doctors&#8217; strike enters week three.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;qlkDSlPaXJvLEuNanxlNW7s7qsfk0p3U&#8221;]Mr. Alex Segbefia made this known when he addressed the media about government&#8217;s efforts to mitigate the strike by the Ghana Medical Association.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Segbefia\u00a0has also stated that government will retain \u201call the Cuban doctors who have completed their rotations and were programmed to leave for Cuba anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Minister, the move forms part of measures by the government &#8220;to protect life and restore normalcy&#8221; within the health sector which has been affected by the strike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) are on a strike over\u00a0codified terms of conditions of service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their action was extended by <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/14\/doctors-extend-strike-for-2-more-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\">two weeks<\/a><\/strong><\/span> last Friday after a crunch general assembly meeting by the GMA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/17\/gmas-strike-500-dead-in-17-days\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scores of people are believed to have died<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as a result of the strike, but the Ghana Medical Association has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/17\/strike-death-toll-innaccurate-gma\/\" target=\"_blank\">disputed<\/a><\/strong><\/span> media reports that the death toll has reached about 500.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Government&#8217;s decision to bring the Cuban doctors is part of plans to mitigate the effects of the doctors&#8217; strike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, the Ministry released a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/14\/doctors-strike-list-of-hospitals-to-access-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\">list of hospitals<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that are still operating despite the strike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/13\/gma-strike-retired-doctors-willing-to-return-police-hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\">retired doctors<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and those on leave have being asked to return to work in some of the quasi government health facilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia has revealed that 177 Cuban doctors are getting ready to fly to Ghana to support health care delivery as the doctors&#8217; strike enters week three.
