{"id":143523,"date":"2015-08-15T09:01:02","date_gmt":"2015-08-15T09:01:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=143523"},"modified":"2015-08-15T09:01:02","modified_gmt":"2015-08-15T09:01:02","slug":"no-doctor-supported-suspension-of-strike-dr-yankson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/no-doctor-supported-suspension-of-strike-dr-yankson\/","title":{"rendered":"No doctor supported suspension of strike &#8211; Dr. Yankson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It has emerged that none of the members of the General Assembly of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) supported the idea that doctors of public health facilities call off their strike any time soon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;KKbxP2DpdHG4pdWBVKtIQ9OslU1SRfR9&#8243;]At least this was the indication given by the Deputy General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Justice Yankson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The General Assembly of the GMA on Friday held a crunch meeting to decide on the way forward regarding the group\u2019s decision to resign en bloc if the government failed to meet their demands of providing them with conditions of service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the end of the meeting, 213 of the members voted for the extension of the strike\u00a0while 148 voted for the resumption of duty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But speaking to the media after the meeting, Dr. Justice Yankson explained that none of the members agreed to a withdrawal of their strike action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is the essence of democracy and what the association stands for, the decision of the General Assembly binds all of us, but I must put on record not a single member in the room said we should call off the strike,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The decision by the GMA is expected to worsen the already precarious situation at some military and private hospitals currently overburdened with the increased number of patients to attend to.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has emerged that none of the members of the General Assembly of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) supported the idea that doctors of public health facilities call off their strike any time soon.
