The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has rejected claims that the party’s leadership is protecting President John Mahama from any form of competition during their primaries on November 7.

Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News, Kofi Adams said that anyone who wishes to contest the President must do a lot of introspection to decide whether it is the wisest move to make.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZLpMVkQeX4UOeMyR7K9RBXOB9XBpJUr6″]“Like Spio Garbrah said, you should be out of your sense to want to contest somebody who is performing so well against all the international challenges that many presidents and countries are facing and someone who has been able to hold his party together. But we are not stopping anybody, you would have to access and ask yourself whether to go or not to go,” he said.

The NDC after a National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday announced that they will go to the polls on November 7 to elect parliamentary candidates and a flagbearer for the 2016 general elections.

The party also pegged filing fee of presidential candidate hopefuls at GH¢50,000 and the parliamentary at GH¢100,000.

There is however a 50% discount for women and disabled persons vying for parliamentary positions.

Meanwhile some critics have accused the NDC of preventing its members from contesting the presidential slot with the view of ensuring popular acclamation for President Mahama.

President Mahama has said he is ready for anyone who wants to contest him in the primaries.

President Mahama’s comment follow rumours that the Minister of Trade and Insustry, Ekow Spio Garbrah was planning to contest the presidential slot of which he has denied.

“The NDC is a very democratic party so we allow for competition at all levels of the party and therefore the party encourages that. This is why we are called the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he added.
