This is why we are called the National Democratic \u00a0Congress (NDC),\u201d the President responded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The President also said he did not believe in the imposition of candidates on constituencies during parliamentary primaries because this could affect the fortunes of his party.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI believe in non-interference in the Parliamentary primaries because at that level such personal involvement could result in the choosing of candidates who will lose the general elections. Therefore it is always proper to allow for the people to elect their own candidates,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the\u00a0Minister of Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio- Garbrah, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/08\/11\/im-not-contesting-mahama-in-ndc-primaries-spio-garbrah\/\" target=\"_blank\">has denied claims<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that he would contest President Mahama in the NDC&#8217;s presidential primaries slated later for this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;&#8230;I wish to in the supreme interest of the NDC, government and peace loving Ghanaians assert my position that, never have I any knowledge of any \u2018supposed\u2019 Friends of Spio Garbrah which are claiming to do bidding for my candidacy.
