President John Mahama has stated that he is ready for anyone who would want to contest him for the position of presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the party’s primaries.

[contextly_sidebar id=”zgSK1CRveBPPKNX6Ndzf90wtfwFdMZth”]The President was speaking in an interview on Uniiq FM, in response to a question as to whether he was expecting some competition for the position.

“The NDC is a very democratic party so we allow for competition at all levels of the party and therefore the party encourages that. This is why we are called the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” the President responded.

The President also said he did not believe in the imposition of candidates on constituencies during parliamentary primaries because this could affect the fortunes of his party.

“I believe in non-interference in the Parliamentary primaries because at that level such personal involvement could result in the choosing of candidates who will lose the general elections. Therefore it is always proper to allow for the people to elect their own candidates,” he stated.
