Residents along the White Volta in the Upper East Region have been asked to suspend all economic activities along the banks of the river following information from authorities of Burkina Faso that they are about to open the spillways of the Bagri dam.<\/p>\n

According to the Upper East Regional Coordinator of NADMO, Alfred Saawog, the call is to prevent any disaster\u00a0since the spillage is normally associated with flooding\u00a0and loss of lives.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”OymxlV0kMjsmjqAQMxFphTCwkDALTYeR”]Mr Saawog said, though NADMO\u2019s rescue team has been deployed to deal with any eventuality, residents along the White Volta must be cautious not to lose\u00a0their lives and property.<\/p>\n

He said; \u201cWe have received information from the Burkinabe authorities that the Bagri dam will be spilled today, August 11, 2015. We want to appeal to the general public especially communities along the White Volta plains notably in the Talensi district, Bawku West district, Bawku municipality and also Binduri district that people who are farming along the plains should stop all farming activities until the spillage stops.”<\/p>\n

Alfred Saawog further urged “shepherd boys and girls who are taking care of animals in the river basin to stop. Those who are farming across the river should also stop such activities and also those who will be crossing the river using canoes to other communities to undertake other economic activities should also stop so that the spillage will come and then we will not have any problem of human lose.”<\/p>\n

He further assured that his outfit has put in place adequate measure to prevent the lose of lives and properties adding that “we have a rapid response team at the regional office and they are being put in readiness for any eventuality.\u201d<\/p>\n
