{"id":142296,"date":"2015-08-10T17:54:48","date_gmt":"2015-08-10T17:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=142296"},"modified":"2015-08-10T17:54:48","modified_gmt":"2015-08-10T17:54:48","slug":"ghana-water-company-to-deploy-prepaid-meters-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/ghana-water-company-to-deploy-prepaid-meters-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana water company to deploy prepaid meters soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finance Minister Seth Tekper has said the Ghana Water Company is expected to soon start introducing prepaid metering services for water, despite resistance from most customers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;LdMfc6asCjPRMJe65O22JVEEmVo6W9IG&#8221;]The Parliamentary Select Committee on Water Resources, Works and Housing demanded a review of the plans to pilot the new policy in early 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The committee issued the directive after a crunch meeting with stakeholders following the public outrage over the proposed policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Minister of Finance Seth Terkper insisted the policy was never withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, \u201cas a country transitioning into lower middle income status, we are at a juncture where we need to restructure and do a lot of things differently from what we have been doing. The policy of prepaid metering was never redrawn. The Ghana Water Company and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) need to do proper planning and education to implement it.
