{"id":142126,"date":"2015-08-10T11:16:23","date_gmt":"2015-08-10T11:16:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=142126"},"modified":"2015-08-10T12:50:43","modified_gmt":"2015-08-10T12:50:43","slug":"court-directs-gbc-to-proceed-with-tv-license-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/court-directs-gbc-to-proceed-with-tv-license-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Court clears GBC to collect TV license"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An Accra Fast Track Court has dismissed an order for Interlocutory injunction brought by Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting TV licence fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the court presided over by Justice RR Batu however, GBC must refrain from sharing it till the court rules on the substantive case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Wereko-Brobby, a former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Promoter of Radio EYE\u2019 filed a writ of summons against GBC, the National Media Commission (NMC), the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Attorney General in an attempt to stop GBC from sharing TV license fees with any other entity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Dr. Wereko Brobby, the Fees and Charges (Amendment) Instrument, 2014; LI 2216 only increased the TV Licence Fees but did not authorize GBC to share the fees collected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The application for interlocutory was filed after the management of GBC decided to go ahead with the collection of the fees despite the suit in court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GBC has deferred the collection of the TV license fees which was scheduled to start on August 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra Fast Track Court has dismissed an order for Interlocutory injunction brought by Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting TV licence fees.
