It’s 1:48 on Monday morning and I am still awake. I haven\u2019t been able to sleep for four hours. I keep turning and tossing\u00a0on my bed and I am sure the temperature in my room is -45 degree Celsius.<\/p>\n
I feel so cold within that my room could be the best cold store for any fish during this dumsor season.<\/p>\n
I am wearing a Lacoste, a nylon long sleeves shirt, a thick pair of khaki trousers and a thick cotton-made pair of socks, all in an attempt to keep warm because I feel terribly cold.<\/p>\n
I look like a \u2018freshly\u2019 inducted mad man celebrating Christmas. No offence but Charles Antwi looks better than I do.<\/p>\n
I am really struggling to write this piece but I am eager to overcome the shivers and the pain to express my anger at the current strike by the medical doctors.<\/p>\n
Over the past two weeks, my health hasn\u2019t been stable. I have spent quite a lot of money trying to get well. First, it was a malaria-looking attack on me and I got some medication to save my life. It worked for the first few days and it resurfaced. I took a day off again just to rest but was only well for some few days.<\/p>\n
Today I can’t even make sense of a simple mathematics equation like 20+20 because my mind keeps wondering if I could still be alive as the clock ticks.<\/p>\n
No no don\u2019t tell me to go the hospital because doctors are on strike. Don\u2019t also tell me to visit the private hospital because I simply cannot afford it.<\/p>\n
My HR manager did her best to get me to register for the NHIS but I failed to renew my card.<\/p>\n
I could understand her motive but\u00a0why would I carry a dead goat syndrome infected card to the hospital when I virtually have to pay every bill when at the hospital.<\/p>\n
I have covered this strike extensively and I doubt it will end any moment soon.<\/p>\n
The President\u2019s posture and the well orchestrated response from government officials simply suggest that it may not end any time soon. Granted that the proposal of the GMA is not tenable, should they be forced to take that decision of withdrawing services?<\/p>\n
Should I, the innocent journalist and other Ghanaians suffer from the lacklustre attitude of government officials? Two elephants are fighting so I have to suffer.<\/p>\n
Today if the Junior Agogo-looking son of the President falls ill, he has so many doctors at his call and can be flown outside the country for emergency attention. I am the son of a teacher, who cannot boast of any attractive incentive. What are my options? To religiously pray and recite some Hail Marys?<\/p>\n
Or I should continue with the medication that gives me dumsor effects? Honestly I don\u2019t mind if I am labelled NPP because of this article because I am a frustrated citizen who could end up in the morgue. I nearly collapsed when I had to count the number of MPs and Ministers of State who had over the months travelled abroad for medical attention.<\/p>\n
And what was the response of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health? Call the doctors for one of their non scoring and Social Studies sessions. My President meanwhile wears a customised dead goat syndrome suit with suitable lenses to match.<\/p>\n
For him, partially inaugurating a project which is barely 50 per cent complete is a priority more than negotiating peacefully with the doctors. Just like always and forever, I am at the mercy of God.<\/p>\n
