{"id":141989,"date":"2015-08-10T06:00:36","date_gmt":"2015-08-10T06:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=141989"},"modified":"2015-08-10T06:01:12","modified_gmt":"2015-08-10T06:01:12","slug":"court-to-hear-tv-license-injunction-case-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/court-to-hear-tv-license-injunction-case-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Court to hear TV license injunction case today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An\u00a0Accra\u00a0Fast Track Court, will today, Monday hear an application for an order of <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/30\/wereko-brobby-sues-gbc-others-over-tv-license-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\">interlocutory injunction<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>brought by Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting TV licence fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;qFjeO8G4pDefdfSWUAjJ73Cd4ydyNvg7&#8243;]Dr. Wereko-Brobby, a former Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Promoter of Radio EYE\u2019 \u00a0filed a writ of summons on July 29, 2015, against GBC, the National Media Commission (NMC), the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the Attorney General seeking various reliefs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He followed the writ of summons up with an application for an order of interlocutory injunction against all the defendants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The application for an order of interlocutory injunction seeks to restrain GBC from collecting the TV Licence Fees from the intended date of\u00a0 August 1, 2015 and sharing the fees with the NMC, GIBA, and the Film Fund.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GBC and the other defendants have developed a formula by which on collection of the TV licence fees, GBC will retain 75% and give 4% to the Media Development Fund, 4% to the NMC, 15% to GIBA and 2% to the Film Fund.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Wereko-Brobby contends that GBC has no right to collect and share the fees with any other entity; because the Fees and Charges (Amendment) Instrument, 2014; LI 2216 only increased the TV Licence Fees but did not authorise GBC to share the fees collected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suit has put GBC\u2019s intention to collect the TV Licence Fees from August 1, 2015 on hold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Wereko-Brobby is represented by lawyer Egbert Faibille Jnr.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An\u00a0Accra\u00a0Fast Track Court, will today, Monday hear an application for an order of interlocutory injunction brought by Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby seeking to restrain the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) from collecting TV licence fees.
