Many people will remember Peter Mac-Manu as the National Chairman of the NPP who took the party into opposition after the 2008 election. But will you blame him when the NPP as a party was complacent and thought the achievements of former President Kufour was enough to see them through the election.<\/p>\n
In the 2012 election, the NPP Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko did a fantastic job; drawing up a campaign strategy that saw Nana Akufo-Addo visit every constituency in Ghana at least on two occasions before the election.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s flagship message of \u201cFREE SHS\u201d was well marketed and Nana Addo at a point was called \u201cNana Free SHS\u201d<\/p>\n
But as the saying always goes \u201cCometh the hour, cometh the man\u201d<\/p>\n
Peter Mac Manu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with accounting specialty from the School of Administration of the University of Ghana now Ghana Business School.<\/p>\n
A family man with five kids, Peter Mac Manu has risen through the ranks from polling station executive to holding key national positions in the party. He helped and oversaw the party in the Western Region when he was Regional Chairman.<\/p>\n
His chairmanship saw an increase in constituency seats from 3 in 1996 to 8 in 2000 and then to 12 in the 2004 elections.<\/p>\n
The New Patriotic Party in this critical period of its life-cycle needs a Campaign Manager who can work under pressure. As someone who has risen through the ranks from Polling Station Executive to National Chairman, he is best fit for the job.<\/p>\n
Mac Manu has toured every part of Ghana as National Chairman and also enjoys the support of many party faithfuls who elected him as National Chairman from 2005 to 2010. I strongly believe many party supporters will welcome him as Campaign Manager, if the flagbearer chooses him.<\/p>\n
Mac Manu is an Industrialist and a Businessman. A good fund raiser too.<\/p>\n
The NPP in opposition needs lots of cash to campaign effectively, and it will need such a man with requisite skills.<\/p>\n
He is a dynamic, exciting and engaging fellow as well as a dyed-in-the-wool apostle of the Danqua\/Busia\/Dombo tradition. He is a founding member of NPP and has worked incessantly in holding the party together.<\/p>\n
For his business credentials, Mac-Manu is founder and Managing Director of Macal Tyre; Janus Macal Rubber Company (a tyre re-moulding and technical rubber production company in Sekondi and Special “T” Travels Limited – an IATA approved travel agent in Accra as well as winner of several awards from major airlines).<\/p>\n
That’s not all. He is also Chairman and Managing Director of Western Water Works (a joint venture designed as part of a DANIDA Technical Co-operation between Mac Watsan of Ghana, Rotek A\/S of Denmark and Span Pumps of India in the construction and supply of safe borehole water in Ghana).<\/p>\n
His international stature gives him an added advantage. He is currently the Honorary Chairman of the Democrat Union of Africa- an International Union working association with over 80 Conservative, Christian Democrat and like-minded political parties of the centre and centre right.<\/p>\n
The Union was formed in 1983, and provides a forum in which Parties holding similar beliefs can come together and exchange views on matters of policy and organizational interest.<\/p>\n
Mac Manu is the party\u2019s face at the Electoral Commission. He represents the party at several EC platforms and in a EC Reform to ensure reforms in the 2016 election.<\/p>\n
Even though the party has a Director of Elections in the person of Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, he serves as a Consultant to the party on electoral matters.<\/p>\n
Nana Akuffo Addo and the NPP will need a Campaign Manager who knows the workings of the EC in order to position the party well for victory.<\/p>\n
Campaigning is stressful especially when you have to tour the entire country more than once. Many will raise issues with his age. Mac Manu is running into his late sixties, will he have the strength to travel across the country even at night?<\/p>\n
In politics, as in comedy, timing is everything. In this vein, I believe it is fair to say Peter Mac-Manu is the right man to lead the NPP Campaign in 2016.<\/p>\n
