An international research team led by Dr. Kwaku Kyeremeh – a lecturer of chemistry at the University of Ghana, has discovered a set of new alkaloids from Ghanaian microorganism which has great potential as a cancer fighting agent.

[contextly_sidebar id=”X28rzdNzT6taFKkdxAt2qsp15QC8v9TY”]The researchers identified for the first time, the compounds Legonmycins A and B, named after Legon, a suburb in Accra, where the producing microorganism was found and isolated.

In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Kyeremeh stated that their studies have shown these compounds have pharmaceutical importance which will go a long away to help in the fight against cancer.

Dr. Kwaku Kyeremeh further lamented how the problem of diagnosis of cancer is leading to some deaths.
