The African Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) wants the Minister of Finance Seth Tekper to come clean on whether or not there was any transfer of funds made into the Sinking Fund account.

[contextly_sidebar id=”as4HftaHMVxkJJxnSa3sjopRyCPaC1tl”]This was after the Bank of Ghana disputed claims by the Minister, that an amount of $100 million was transferred into the Sinking Fund to help the nation repay it’s debt and the BOG swept the account clean in March 2015.

The fund according to Seth Terkper, was to be funded with excess cash from the contingency fund.

In an interview with Citi News Deputy Executive Director of ACEP, Ben Boakye insisted that Ghanaians need to know whether Government is serious about its plans to deal with the debt stock as outlined in the 2015 budget.

“It was the minister of finance who read the supplementary budget to parliament and if you check what he read under the sinking fund, he said the outstanding balance of $100 million which was the excess of the stabilization fund transferred into the account has been swept by the Bank of Ghana. And bank of Ghana has said they have not sanctioned any transfer into the sinking fund yet, so what money was the finance minister talking about?”

Ben Boakye observed that “there is a division of the Bank of Ghana that handles the petroleum revenues so if there is a transfer from the stabilization fund to the sinking fund, they should know. But they didn’t know about it this.”

“They haven’t done any transfer into the sinking fund so where from that $100million the minister talked about. What it means is that, no money has been transferred into the sinking fund from the stabilization account,” he added.
