A group calling itself Youth for Peace and Security Africa is accusing the Volta Regional Coordinating Council of laxity in handling violent cases in the Alavanyo and Nkonya area.<\/p>\n
The group which was previously helping in a mediation process between the two towns was halted by the Volta Regional Security Council.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”sYBG5dEUyfFg4GwPCWszuOa7CZJwkuiQ”]The Executive Director of the group, Abraham Klutsey at a press conference in Accra on 4 August, 2015 revealed that they were not given a reason for this new development.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis calculated act of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council with Honourable Helen Torsu and the acting regional director spearheaded to block the peace dialogue raises several questions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mr. Klutsey alleged that some people seemed to be profiteering from the conflict, hence the seeming lukewarm attitude of the government in resolving the 90-year-old conflict.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is an allegation that some members of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council were making huge profit from the money meant for managing the conflict and we will do everything possible to collapse any successful peace building,\u201d he said, \u201cThe politics must stop and the business must stop.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also called on the president of Ghana to bring back the peace process so that peace could be restored between Nkonya and Alavanyo.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe humbly ask the president of Ghana to restore the peace process to allow the people to dialogue,\u201d he continued, \u201cAlso, we humbly ask the president again to give justice to the people and provide relief items and better security to the people.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, he further said that if the president delayed about 48 hours from today and failed to honour their requests, \u201cwe shall also not wait again for another life to be lost or ignore the people of Nkonya and Alavanyor to go through hardship.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe shall take all the suspected members of the government whose actions and inactions have resulted in the death of those five people to court, where they will justify why they should not be punished,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
