The Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Alhaji Mohammed Haroon, has attributed rampant clashes between Senior High School students and school authorities to \u201cgrowing indiscipline among students in the Region.\u201d<\/p>\n
Three Senior High Schools in the Northern Region, including the Nalerigu Senior High have been closed down indefinitely in a spate of a week after clashes between students and school authorities.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”mBLZ7ApcM2SGAYQ9ipPrAkFFvC8bKgWW”]The students vandalised the Headmaster\u2019s bungalow and other school property after an entertainment jam was postponed by the school\u2019s head. Twenty four students were subsequently picked up by the police.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Alhaji Haroon justified the headmaster\u2019s decision to postpone the entertainment, saying the student\u2019s act was criminal in nature.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the case of Nalerigu SHS\u2026, the headmaster simply told them that it was exam week so instead of jamming, they should postpone until after the exam. So he was telling them to concentrate on their books\u2026. No matter how the headmaster said it, he was reasonable,\u201d Alhaji Haroon said.<\/p>\n Alhaji Haroon however blamed the \u201cgrowing indiscipline among students in the region\u201d on improper parental training, stressing, \u201cas charity begins at home, these children bring the indiscipline from their homes\u2026because when you have disciplined children from home, they do not involve themselves in this kind of rampaging. Are we breeding a bunch of thieves as students?\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, 24 students of the Nalerigu SHS have been arrested by the Police following clashes on campus last Saturday.<\/p>\n Public Relations of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Citi News<\/strong> students found to have instigated the riot after investigations will be prosecuted.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have retrieved some of the computers from some of them\u2026but some happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. We have to be very careful and do a very diligent job.
