A Legal Practitioner, Francis Sosu says he will file an application to quash the sentence of Charles Antwi, the gunman who was jailed after confessing that he wanted to kill President Mahama.

“We are going to the Human Rights Court for an order or certiorari to quash the ruling,” the lawyer said.

[contextly_sidebar id=”QP8oZRKogzE8IgOMLm0W7xyIiljDqby9″]Charles Antwi has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for entering the church [Assemblies of God] of the President, John Dramani Mahama with a gun.

He confessed last Thursday that he had wanted to assassinate the President.

Speaking on Citi FM’s News Analysis Programme, The Big Issue, Mr. Sosu said the ruling must be “quashed and it is likely that we will do this next week.”

He revealed that he had requested for “some documentations and medical proof from the family to challenge the ruling.”

Mr. Sosu is not the only person pushing for a review of the ruling on Antwi case.

A private legal practitioner, Godwin Adjei-Gyamfi has done same, petitioning the Amnesty International to investigate the case.

Media created assassination

Mr. Sosu described the case as a “media created assassination attempt on the Presidency.”

This, he said, was because the media was “so sensational” with the issue and “blew it out of proportion”

“Infact there were several media house between Sunday and Monday that alleged that there was an attempted assassination on the President and that is why I think that his confession fed into that misguided concept.

“In my view what happened in court only fed into that assumption. Obviously if anyone wants to kill the President that will not be a small news. It is easier for people to fall within any trap by set of facts or assumptions.”

I’m disappointed in CHRAJ

Mr. Sosu was also displeased with what he described as the Commission on Human Rights and Admisntrative Justice’s (CHRAJ) nonchalant attitude towards the case.

“I am quite disappointed in CHRAJ in several ways. Infact it is not only this case. There have been several human right issues that have come out recently that I believe and I feel CHRAJ should be seen as playing lead roles in those issues.”

According to him, CHRAJ has never associated itself with projects relating to human rights violations.

“CHJRAJ should be seen as playing lead roles. We do a lot of cases with human right violations. We have had collaboration from human rights advocacy centre but we have never had CHRAJ associate themselves with any so it seems they do not exist and this is a constitutional body that must track
