{"id":139600,"date":"2015-07-31T17:39:14","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T17:39:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=139600"},"modified":"2015-07-31T17:43:33","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T17:43:33","slug":"doctors-rubbish-govts-flimsy-excuse-over-their-demands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/doctors-rubbish-govts-flimsy-excuse-over-their-demands\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctors rubbish govt&#8217;s &#8216;flimsy&#8217; excuse over their demands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has described as \u201cflimsy,\u201d comments suggesting that the economy cannot support\u00a0their demands contained in their proposed conditions of service.<\/p>\n<p>Public sector doctors have begun a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/29\/doctors-declare-nationwide-strike\/\" target=\"_blank\">nationwide strike<\/a><\/strong><\/span> following government\u2019s inability to provide them with conditions of service.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;uyoOIWNQdxR9sZW1cEBdeEJ0ZsqgxNsA&#8221;]A recent Facebook post by a Presidential staffer Stan Dogbe, claiming to be the demands of the doctors, angered the association which has since dismissed aspects of the publication.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<strong> Citi News<\/strong>, the Deputy General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Justice Yankson said\u00a0the onus lies on government to \u201cdo the right thing\u201d by giving them what they deserve.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, no citizen in Ghana is bound by law to work for a particular employer including government therefore, public sector doctors \u201care at liberty to work for any other employer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we are saying is that if the current employer we work with is not ready to ensure that some conditions of service that we are supposed to have as an employee is properly streamlined, then we cannot continue to work with that employer; we would rather seek other employers to work with,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Yankson stressed that people all over the world change jobs every day, therefore if they decide to change jobs, it is nothing out of the ordinary.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that a couple of weeks ago, the workers of the Judicial Service and lawyers at the Attorney General\u2019s Department were all demanding better conditions of service from government but \u201cdid anybody see anybody put things on Facebook?
