The Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo has descended heavily on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region for the inability to distinguish between party business and government business.<\/p>\n
According to him, the lack of the understanding of article 248 of the 1992 constitution and the local government act has resulted in some party members in the region \u201ctalking over DCEs belongings as if there is a revolution happening\u201d when they heard of the announcement of the exit of DCEs in Bia West, Jomoro and the Shama districts of the region.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”HWl0zZtSwxtchscuoybFRxb5DP7adfs6″]Mr. Aidoo was speaking at a short ceremony to officially end the tenure of Mr. Sylvester Dadie, DCE for Jomoro, Enoch Kojo Appiah, DCE for Shama and Tweneboah Kodua the DCE for Bia West district at the Western Regional Coordinating Council in Sekondi.<\/p>\n
He said \u201ceven in some cases, some party chairmen and their followers went to the extent of sacking DCEs from their bungalows and taking over their vehicles. Meanwhile all items at the disposal of the DCEs either belong to the central government or the district assembly, not any political party. Our people must know that once a DCE is appointed and accepted, he then serves the interest of all the persons in the district not the party members only. It is clear that they do not understand what is party business and government business and I think they should go through some kind of orientation to know their limit otherwise technocrats will not take us for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Aidoo warned that \u201cso if the DCEs term ends, and because he was appointed by His Excellency, no one can get him out of his office or home, nobody can take the DCEs vehicle, nobody can sack him, not even the regional minister unless he is directed by the president to do so, but our people are running over issues and behaving as if the DCEs are not part of the party that we all belong.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Mr. Aidoo also charged the district coordinating directors who will be taking charge in the absence of their DCEs to be firm.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cDo not deal with anything concerning monies in the assembly without my approval. You are not to take orders from anybody no matter the stature or the social class of the person not even if he is a party member.\u201d<\/p>\n
Deputy Regional Secretary of NDC Charles Fordjour and the Deputy Communications officer Kirk Mensah who were present at the ceremony admitted that \u201cour party members need some form of orientation and we will have to move in sooner to meet them at their constituencies to address the challenge before it repeats itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
