Mere 24 hours after the launch, Windows 10 is already installed on more than 14 million computers, Microsoft has announced in a blog post.<\/p>\n
The number could have been even bigger, but Microsoft is delivering the update to those who reserved it “in phases” to ensure the process goes smoothly for everyone.<\/p>\n
“While we now have more than 14 million devices running Windows 10, we still have many more upgrades to go before we catch up to each of you that reserved your upgrade,” Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s corporate vice president, wrote.<\/p>\n
For comparison, Microsoft sold 40 million licenses for Windows 8, its last major operating system, in the first month of availability in 2012.<\/p>\n
Of course, there’s a huge difference between Windows 8 and Windows 10 \u2014 the latter is free for anyone running Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, as well as all users in the Windows Insider program.<\/p>\n
Those who reserved their upgrade, but still haven’t received it, should watch out for a notification in their system tray. And users who still haven’t reserved the upgrade can do so via the Get Windows 10 app.<\/p>\n
