{"id":139510,"date":"2015-07-31T12:23:09","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T12:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=139510"},"modified":"2015-07-31T13:00:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T13:00:20","slug":"nurses-and-midwives-to-also-lay-down-tools-if","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/nurses-and-midwives-to-also-lay-down-tools-if\/","title":{"rendered":"Nurses and Midwives to also lay down tools if&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Coalition of unpaid Nurses and Midwives is threatening to embark on an industrial action in September if the government does not pay them their salary arrears.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Nurses and Midwives numbering about three thousand across all 10 regions threatened to besiege the offices of the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of health if their arrears are not paid to them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;534C1feZeaWa6puVJmPNhlaET4lX0LXJ&#8221;]The latest threat comes\u00a0in the wake of strikes \u00a0by the Ghana Medical Association over the absence of a contract for conditions of service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an interview with Citi News, the Coordinator of the Coalition, Douglas Adu Poku revealed that they were employed last year \u00a0yet many of them have still not received their salaries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMost of us were employed in 2014 starting from February and even others were employed in January and most of us were paid for only three months out of the months that we have worked,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him they had filled arrears forms following a directive by the Ministry of Finance but they have\u00a0not received their arrears.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThere was a directive from the Ministry of Finance that we were supposed to be paid for only three months then we had to fill something we call the arrears form of which members have filled all the forms and have submitted them last year and they have still not done it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Adu Poku said that government should be prepared for the consequences if it does not heed their caution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSome of us started work without a dime and what we want government to do is to get our arrears paid by the end of August,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Selassie A.
