The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna has downplayed a purported statement from the Andani family in Dagbon kicking against government\u2019s resolve to find lasting solution to the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.<\/p>\n
Government in an attempt to solve the age long chieftaincy crisis between the Abudu and Andani royals in Dagbon hinted of performing the final funeral rituals of the late two overlords of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”iC31S1Thu8EQlujSDPaCAyNSS12bBOC8″]However, a statement issued by Abdulai Yakubu Andani in his capacity as representative of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II family cautioned government against the move.<\/p>\n
He disassociated the Andani family from government\u2019s agenda and concluded that the family will resist any attempt to perform the funerals of any late Yaa-Naa in Dagbon.<\/p>\n
According to him, their opposition to the move was non-negotiable.
\nAddressing the media in Tamale, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna described the statement as baseless.<\/p>\n
He urged all well meaning Ghanaians to treat the said statement with the contempt that it deserves.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cIf they have heard or picked any information attributed to me they would have come to me in the office to listen to the side of my story before going to release any statement to the press: I want to ignore it and still give anybody the opportunity who thinks I have said anything otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n
He explained, \u201cI made an appeal to our religious leaders, the Imams to support government in prayer so that we can get the issue of Dagbon come to an end.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna promised to deepen his total esteem for the customs of Dagbon.<\/p>\n
He promised not to do anything untoward as the regional Minister to mar government\u2019s transformational agenda.<\/p>\n
He however said government would implement any road map presented by the Asantehene led three eminent chiefs mediating the Dagbon chieftaincy stalemate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are committed to the course of Dagbon and that we are asking them to continue praying for us and that it is our wish as a government that we hope and pray that the issue of Dagbon in respect to the funerals would have been brought a close by November that is the wish of government.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Concerned Abudu Youth in Dagbon encouraged government to stay focused and bring finality to the pending funerals.<\/p>\n
The groups Spokesperson, Hassan Gaddafi in a Citi News interview said, \u201cTo us the Abudu family the worth of rather excruciating and traumatizing instinct has engulfed the family for the past 27 years until the euphoria that permitted the rank and file of the Abudu family by the announcement of the Hon. regional Minister that November this year the funeral of his Royal Highness the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and that of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani will be performed: so actually we are happy as a family.\u201d<\/p>\n
He accused the Andani family of attempting to frustrate government\u2019s agenda on the funerals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to state in no uncertain terms that it is common knowledge by all and sundry in this country that anytime there is a move to restore peace and bring lasting solution to the problem we have in Dagbon, the Andanis have always muddied the waters.\u201d<\/p>\n
