{"id":138926,"date":"2015-07-29T17:14:29","date_gmt":"2015-07-29T17:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=138926"},"modified":"2015-07-29T17:14:29","modified_gmt":"2015-07-29T17:14:29","slug":"ashalaja-residents-beg-govt-to-reconstruct-collapsed-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/ashalaja-residents-beg-govt-to-reconstruct-collapsed-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Ashalaja residents beg gov&#8217;t to reconstruct collapsed bridge\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents of Ashalaja in the Ga West Municipality are pleading with government to reconstruct the\u00a0collapsed bridge that links the municipality with Ga South.<\/p>\n<p>Some weeks ago, <strong>Citi News<\/strong> received distress calls from residents who had reported that the bridge, which connects Ayikai Doboro, Ashalaja and its environs collapsed last night after a tipper truck loaded with gravels used it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-138961\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m40s346.png\" alt=\"vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m40s346\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m40s346.png 620w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m40s346-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News\u2019<\/strong> interview with a pregnant woman revealed that she had made the journey from Ashalaja to Nsawam across the river in order to receive antenatal care.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-138959\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m10s216.png\" alt=\"vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m10s216\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m10s216.png 620w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/vlcsnap-2015-07-29-15h22m10s216-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When asked about how she was going to cope when she is due, she said she would sleep over at the Nsawam hospital a few days before the due time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the nine months reach, I will still go to Nsawam but because the bridge is destroyed, I would have to come and sleep at the hospital at Nsawam before the due time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-138953\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0064.jpg\" alt=\"TOMM0064\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0064.jpg 620w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0064-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She further appealed to the government to fix the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it is morning, you\u2019ll find a lot of people waiting to be ferried. It is not a small crowd you see here,\u201d she added, \u201cToday we passed on a bad road so we appeal to the government to make things better here for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-138952\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0063.jpg\" alt=\"TOMM0063\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0063.jpg 620w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0063-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to the Assembly man of one of the towns in the Ga South Municipal area, Ahmed Agbenyo Wisdom said it was on July 7 that the incidence occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn alarm was raised so we had to call the field engineers to come in,\u201d he said, \u201cActually, this bridge links the Ga South to the Ga West Municipal and it is known as the major link that links to the Central and the West and at the same time the Greater Accra Region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-138958\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0080.jpg\" alt=\"TOMM0080\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0080.jpg 620w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/TOMM0080-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, Nii Akwei Thompson, in an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, had attributed the cause of the collapsed bridge to activities of tipper truck drivers in the area.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the incessant sand winning in the area was what had exposed the bridge, adding that tipper truck operators had been cautioned not to use it but they ignored the warning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Selassie A.
