The West Africa Network for Peace Building (WANEP) has expressed worry over the recurrent troubles in Bimbila in the Northern Region, describing the situation as “unfortunate.”

WANEP stated that the current peace situation in Bimbilla is fragile and fears the problems there might degenerate if lasting solutions are not found immediately.

[contextly_sidebar id=”I1ZrRORN7G4z5QY6ht6O4X0clhBd0I29″]The troubled town has been placed under a 4:00 pm to 6:00am curfew following recent clashes, which left over a dozen people dead.

The Executive Director for WANEP, Chwukuemeka Eze said although the government is working to find solutions to problems in the area, there is also the need for increased community dialogues with all the parties involved if lasting peace is to be realized .

“For me the conflict in Bimbilla is very pathetic to the extent that the community has produced one of the global best mediators in the world today in the person of Dr Ibn Chambas who is the UN Secretary General’s representative for West Africa. For me, for his hometown to be messed up in this kind of conflict to say the least is very unfortunate and I think the people should reflect and give peace a chance.”

Chwukuemeka Eze noted that the only way to ensure that peace prevails in Bimbilla is through community dialogue.

“The only way we can do that is to ensure that we have mechanisms through which these conflicts can be transformed and sustained over a period of time. We proposed like community dialogues, involving all the parties in the conflict such that people are sure that when there is dispute arising from any side of the divide, they have community approach through which they can resolve this,” he added.
