{"id":138843,"date":"2015-07-29T14:31:55","date_gmt":"2015-07-29T14:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=138843"},"modified":"2015-07-29T15:25:09","modified_gmt":"2015-07-29T15:25:09","slug":"gunmans-case-still-under-investigations-fritz-baffour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/gunmans-case-still-under-investigations-fritz-baffour\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunman&#8217;s case still under investigations &#8211; Fritz Baffour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, Fritz Baffour has disclosed that despite the imprisonment of the gunman who planned to kill President John Mahama, the matter is still under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>He however criticized the hasty manner in which the accused, Charles Antwi was tried and convicted.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that detailed investigations should have been done\u00a0before sentencing him.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;gfbYudqz3xInKCH719XRmfZtWCE1XdI8&#8243;]Antwi was<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/28\/gunman-in-mahamas-church-jailed-10-years\/\" target=\"_blank\"> jailed 10 years<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for illegally possessing firearms, but he told the court that he wanted to kill the President in order to<span style=\"color: #666699;\"> <strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/28\/i-wanted-to-save-ghana-from-mahama-gunman\/\" target=\"_blank\">save the nation<\/a><\/strong><\/span> from the President\u2019s bad governance.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Fritz Baffour, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South, described the judicial process as hasty saying, \u201cI thought it was a little hasty and I think that there is more to it than what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we should have done investigations and held on because he could have easily been somebody who could have been sent but I don\u2019t want to talk about the conspiracy theory\u2026 My personal view was that it was a little hasty and we should have waited a bit and done very intense investigation,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>The MP like many others, expressed worry over Antwi\u2019s state of mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormally, you will look at the man\u2019s state of mind whether he is sane\u2026but as it is, that wasn\u2019t done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the MP for Nkoranza South, Major (rtd) Derek Oduro told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the convict\u2019s actions were questionable and it raises serious security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis raises security concerns that we must go into and find out because the fear and panic which has been put into people is so great that we don\u2019t have to sweep it under the carpet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also questioned the quick sentencing of the trial Judge saying, \u201cwhy did we give him a very quick trial when we have other sensitive issues which the Attorney General and Police prosecutors have not been able to finish their investigation so why was it done so fast?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, Fritz Baffour has disclosed that despite the imprisonment of the gunman who planned to kill President John Mahama, the matter is still under investigation.
