A private legal practitioner, John Ndebugri has advised the state to find said military man who allegedly directed the jailed gunman to the church where President John Mahama worships.

According to him, the involvement a military man amounts to treason and thorough investigations must be carried out to unravel a possible conspiracy to assassinate the President.

[contextly_sidebar id=”xGTreCqXgerJcrjvk2PSEajhYyK9OXlO”]“I am worried because the gentleman said he was directed to the church by some military officer at the castle. That is very serious. This is now turning towards treason; it’s turning towards treason and there must be conspiracy somewhere,” he lamented.

This, he said is disturbing following the “hush, hush thing [sentencing] that happened today.”

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday jailed a 36-year-old man who confessed to plotting to kill the President.

He was handed the jail sentence 48 hours after his arrest. During his confession, he alleged that a Military man at the Castle directed him to the church where President John Mahama and his family worship.

But Lawyer Ndebugri said the quick trial and subsequent sentencing of the gunman may have hindered the chance of the Police to carry out further investigations into the issue.

“I think that this thing ought to be investigated properly but the process that took place today is a bit flawed I dare…there seems to be more to it than it meets the eye and I would have recommended that more serious investigations ought to have been done before the it was determined,” he suggested.

He was of the view that the Judge’s decision to circumvent the remand request of the Police was wrong, adding that the normal procedure should have been allowed to take its course.

“I have taken my case to you and I am telling you to do A, B, C so I don’t understand what the trial Judge meant by circumventing everything.”

Lawyer Ndebugri said he sides with the Police Prosecutor because “under Section 192, you cannot proceed to prosecute without the approval of the Attorney General…so I don’t understand why there was this hurried change of the charge…”

He however said there is cause for Ghanaians to be concerned because the case involves the head of the state.
