The junior doctors currently picketing at the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department (CAGD) are likely to be charged with “unlawful gathering.”<\/p>\n

The Director of Operations at the Greater Accra Regional Command, DSP Freeman Kumashie made this known to Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Franklin Badu Jnr.<\/p>\n

About 35 junior doctors out of the agitated 91, have\u00a0thronged the premises of the CAGD<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to protest the non-payment of their salaries, which had not been paid for over 11 months.<\/p>\n

Franklin Badu Jnr reported that DSP Freeman had told him that, they were waiting for the \u201cleadership of the of the group and charge them for unlawful gathering because they did notify the Police before gathering.\u201d<\/p>\n

He observed that there were Police armored vehicles around the office of the CAGD.<\/p>\n

The doctors had explained that they were at the premise to only present a petition to the CAGD and not to demonstrate.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey argue that if nurses and other public sector workers can come here and present their documents and go through a biometric verification process, why can\u2019t they?\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The doctors were drawn from Ho, Takoradi, Sunyani and the 37 Military Hospital.<\/p>\n

Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) Section 202 states:<\/p>\n

(1) Whoever takes part in an unlawful assembly shall be guilty of a misdemeanour.<\/p>\n

(2) Whoever takes part in an unlawful assembly armed with any offensive weapon or missile shall be guilty of second degree felony.<\/p>\n
