The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has rejected various media publications, accusing them of leading a campaign to privatise the troubled Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).<\/p>\n
Ghana is preparing to implement the second Millennium Challenge Compact of about $490 million which is aimed at addressing the challenges in the entire power supply value chain, specifically in generation, transmission and distribution.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”VyZHj1NBV3za94nk5uXwtYLTBWAW1Cg7″]In a statement, MiDA clarified that it has only been \u201cmandated by the Government of Ghana to implement Ghana Compact 2, which seeks to address the root causes of the current problem of unreliable power supply in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026 the publications and some of the media discussions contain a number of inaccuracies and untruths, which MiDA will fully respond to shortly,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
The workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had staged massive opposition<\/a><\/strong><\/span> against government\u2019s decision to privatiise buy neurontin online<\/a> some operations of the company.<\/p>\n \u201cWorkers of ECG are not in support of the government of Ghana\u2019s decision to give the company to a private entity under a concessional arrangement,\u201d said the Deputy General Secretary of the Public Utility Workers Union, Michael Nyantakyi in an interview on Eyewitness News.<\/strong><\/p>\n Ghanaians and particularly industry<\/a><\/span><\/strong> have endured about three years of serious energy problems, leading to thousands of job cuts<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the private sector.<\/p>\n MiDA also said in the statement that the challenges in the power sector “have caused severe hardship to many Ghanaians, impeding our national development agenda.”<\/p>\n
