The National Council of Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) has expressed \u201cgreat shock and dismay\u201d at the Second Lady for chastising a headmistress who requested that her school be provided with the basic teaching tools like chalk and log books.<\/p>\n
While presenting five computers to the Kukurantumi Presby Primary School, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur blatantly denied the appeal from the headmistress and accused her of being ungrateful despite major efforts by government to make them comfortable.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”WXR3yViNZiqF6rUaHvR9tcj4TdAOzjM4″]\u201cHow much is a box of chalk? I won\u2019t give you chalk today, I won\u2019t give you chalk tomorrow,\u201d the Second Lady said.<\/p>\n
She also complained about the over-reliance of parents on government\u2019s free school uniforms, saying that government had \u201cspoilt\u201d parents by providing school uniforms which had now made some of them reluctant to provide for their children.<\/p>\n
The National Council of PTAs, in a statement signed by National President Alexander Danso said they believe Mrs Amissah-Arthur \u201cdid not speak well\u201d and must apologise to the headmistress, parents and Ghanaians in general.<\/p>\n
They said the provision of basic teaching and learning inputs is widely believed to be the responsibility of government and Ghanaian parents had also not requested government to provide school uniforms.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is the government\u2019s own decision to do so and if it is becoming a burden, and cannot continue further this project, then she should back out rather than allowing\u2026 officials to insult the dignity of Ghanaian parents,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
The council said since PTAs support government in the education sector and so was needless on the part of Mrs Amissah-Arthur to tell Ghanaian parents to help.<\/p>\n
