{"id":135201,"date":"2015-07-16T15:06:13","date_gmt":"2015-07-16T15:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=135201"},"modified":"2015-07-16T18:12:01","modified_gmt":"2015-07-16T18:12:01","slug":"sue-if-you-are-unhappy-with-privileges-committee-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/sue-if-you-are-unhappy-with-privileges-committee-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"Sue if you are unhappy with Privileges Committee &#8211; MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice Chairman of Parliament\u2019s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, George Loh is asking anyone unhappy with the work of the Privileges Committee of the House to go to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Loh\u2019s comment comes on the back of accusations by Managing Editor of the Searchlight Newspaper, Kenneth Kuranchie that the Committee\u2019s invitation to persons deemed to have been in contempt of it smacks of intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Vh7qZ3JFnq1bBefqJicmR8iy2EixYmkR&#8221;]Ken Kuranchie who appeared before the Committee last week has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/15\/parliaments-invitations-to-journalists-intimidating-ken-kuranchie\/\" target=\"_blank\">written to the Committee Chairman<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>challenging its work and constitutional power to invite suspected conterminous.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> however, George Loh who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Dayi said the Supreme Court interpretation might help in the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody including Ken Kuranchie who feels strongly about this, the law courts are there, the Supreme Court is there for interpretation,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that a little research will indicate that everywhere in the world, every Parliament has a Privileges Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Loh insisted that \u201cthe standard document for all Parliaments in the world talks about privileges\u2026so it is not what we are doing is of our own opinions or ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParliament is an institution which is globally constituted on global principles so you can go and check,\u201d he argued, adding that \u201cGhana\u2019s Parliament is not doing anything different from what other Parliaments do and of course, we are masters of our own rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice Chairman of Parliament\u2019s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, George Loh is asking anyone unhappy with the work of the Privileges Committee of the House to go to the Supreme Court.
