A former second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye has criticized political parties in the country especially the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for preaching hatred and divisive politics.<\/p>\n
He categorically mentioned former President John Rawlings as the chief architect of such politicking.<\/p>\n
\u201cFormer President Rawlings went about telling Northerners that we hated them, we killed the chief, we had a tape, we should vote for them so that they come and expose us. They voted for them, where is the tape, where is the evidence that a former President of all people has said existed?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n
According to him, such divisive politics does not augur well for Ghana\u2019s growing democracy.<\/p>\n
Prof. Oquaye\u2019s comments were in response to criticisms from some quarters that the NPP is an elitist political party.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong says part of the party\u2019s strategy for 2016 will be to connect with people in areas the party has not done well in past elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would have to devise strategies of connecting with the people and building confidence in them so that they can feel a certain amount of affinity towards our political tradition,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
