The Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP) says it will issue a formal complaint to the Electoral Commission (EC) following the party\u2019s observations in the by-election in Talensi.<\/p>\n
There was reported violence between some youth groups of the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”pfAq5yjMReS3eZsZb0sCtsGPnn1Aj92s”]The violence almost marred the peaceful by-election that had the NDC\u2019s B.T. Baba elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.<\/p>\n
Many, including the President, John Mahama have condemned the incident and have charged the Police to investigate and bring the suspects to book.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s founder at a press conference on Monday outlined a number of issues he said the EC needs to work on before the next general elections in 2016.<\/p>\n
Among these, he said the EC needs to enforce its own laws to the letter to make election results credible.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, the National Secretary of the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw said they will formally push for needed reforms at the EC.<\/p>\n He stated that the party has sent letters to the Electoral Commission on two occasions but no response was received, not even an acknowledgment.<\/p>\n \u201cIf the EC is now coming around to say that we should file a formal complaint, we will do so but the issues hovering around the content of our petition to the EC is not pertaining to the Talensi by-election and the violence.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhat we are talking is about is that why has the Electoral Commission allowed political parties to violate the political parties law and still give them an opportunity to field candidates and participate in an electoral process, ostensibly to win and come and govern with the laws of Ghana.
