Telecommunications provider, Tigo in the month of February made a major comeback in its data subscriber base.<\/p>\n
After losing about 80,000 subscribers in the month of January, it regained about 179,000 data subscribers in February.<\/p>\n
This was reported in the monthly telecommunications market share report issued by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for the month of February.<\/p>\n
Data subscription in Ghana increased by about 3.3% in the month of February, 2014.<\/p>\n
The total industry subscription increased from 12.4million to 12.8million.<\/p>\n
This pushed the data penetration in Ghana from 47.4percent to 48.8percent.
\nTigo\u2019s significant increase in subscriber base in February shot up its total subscribers from about 1.5million to a little over 1.6million representing a 12percent growth.<\/p>\n
Tigo\u2019s market share hence is up from about 12percent to about 13percent.<\/p>\n
Tigo was closely followed by Vodafone which increased its subscriber base by about 172,000 in the month of February.<\/p>\n
Its subscriber base increased from a little under 1.9million to 2million subscribers representing about 9percent growth.<\/p>\n
Vodafone now commands about 15.9percent of the total market share.<\/p>\n
Market leader, MTN seems to be losing ownership of its market share. Though it recorded about 51,000 new data subscribers, its market share declined from 54.2 percent to 52.9percent.<\/p>\n
MTN\u2019s subscriber base is now about 6.8million.<\/p>\n
Airtel\u2019s data subscriber base increased by about 14,000 in the month of February.<\/p>\n
The total number of data subscribers increased from 1.96million to a little under 1.98million.<\/p>\n
Airtel now owns about 15.4percent of the total market share.
\nExpresso which now commands just about 0.4percent of the total market share recorded 105 new subscribers in February.<\/p>\n
Total number of subscribers hit a little under 51,000.
\nOnly GlO recorded a decline in its number of data subscribers.<\/p>\n
Glo lost about 3000 subscribers in the month of February hence its market share declined from 2.5% to 2.4% in February, 2014.<\/p>\n
Its subscriber base totaled about 305,000 at the end of the February.<\/p>\n
